How do decorators fill holes?
If you're a decorator, chances are you've had to fill holes in walls from time to time. Whether it's from nails, screws, or other hardware, filling holes is a necessary part of the job. But how do you do it so that the hole is filled properly and looks good?
Here are a few tips on how to fill holes as a decorator:
Use the right type of filler. There are many different types of fillers on the market, so make sure you choose one that is suitable for the type of hole you're filling.
For example, if you're filling a small hole, you may want to use a ready mixed filler. For larger holes, joint compound is a far better option.
Preparation of the area around the hole is essential. Before you start filling the hole, take some time to prep the area around it. This includes sanding down any rough edges and cleaning up any dust or debris.
Apply the filler. Once you've prepped the area, it's time to apply the filler. If you're using ready mixed filler, apply it with a filling knife and smooth it out as best you can. For joint compound, use a trowel to apply it evenly into the hole.
Let it dry. Once you've applied the filler, let it dry completely before moving on to the next step. This usually takes about 24 hours.
Sand and paint. Once the filler is dry, sand it down so that it's flush with the surrounding wall surface. Then, paint over it so that it blends in with the rest of the wall.
